Abstract
<p>"The profiles in both volumes of New Zealand Musicians in Australia give readers insights into the ways those musicians and bands, who came from 1959 - 1976 more than pulled their weight as they contributed to Australian pop and rock in that era. At one stage Max Merritt lost half his band to Billy Thorpe when bassist Teddy Toi and drummer Johnny Dick left to join the Aztecs. Roy Hoff lost half his band too, but Billy had a great new line-up. Max re-built the Meteors several times. In 1966 when Bruno Lawrence was their drummer, they held a residency at the Hawaiian Eye, one of a handful of high-profile Sydney nightclubs. Working in a venue like that meant wearing a jacket and a tie. Max wasn't a jacket-and-tie musician. Neither was Bruno. This story and many more are with the profiles in Volume two. This volume covers NZ musicians and bands who had short careers in Australia and includes a section about background people (like Kiwi producers, Kiwi promoters) who also came in the years 1959-1976 and worked in the music industry here."-- Back cover.</p>
